Number of years working in the hair industry?

12 years

Background / how you got into this industry / travel experiences / something interesting about yourself...

Originally from Australia, I got my first taste of hairdressing through a work experience placement in my home borough of Sydney at a local beauty salon. I had so much fun and learned so much that on leaving I knew I would eventually take up a creative position in one way, shape or form. As it turned out it was hair and beauty and on completing my schooling I went into hairdressing full-time and never looked back. In 2008 I moved to London and fell in love with the place, from here I’ve been able to build a clientele and the rest is history

What motivates / inspires you in this industry?

I love the fact that I’m able to radically alter someone's look with a careful eye and a pair of scissors. There is always something new to discover and I enjoy developing my craft.

What do you enjoy about your job?

I’m very much a people person and I love people’s quirks. I'm tattooed, curly and raven with heaps of energy so I love talking to clients and building relationships with the people whose hair I’m responsible for. Plenty of client interaction at Bob is welcome and fun... and cheaper than therapy that’s for sure!

Awards and training

I started off doing a 4 year apprenticeship where I had to go to college one day each week for 2 years and demonstrate what I’d learned on models and other students every other week. I've also done various L'Oréal colour and cutting courses, with success in hairdressing competitions back in Australia. Uniquely though I spent time working at a bridal salon so my experience with Hair-ups and Up-do’s is really quite extensive.

What hair item / product would you take to a desert island?

L'Oréal Liss Control to tame my unruly curls, with a heat protector to shield my tresses from any pesky UV rays

Favourite item of clothing?

Any one of my black vintage couture dresses would do, I collect them, which I would team with my £5 sunglasses that I literally had to wrestle a drag queen to the floor of Spitalfields market to get... not my proudest moment, but a fun memory (sorry Dad:-s)

altogether sharper styling...
